Jean Baptiste Roy Audy

Coincidences!

Jean Baptiste Roy Audy était un des peintres les plus célèbres du Québec au 19ème siècle.  Son travail peut être vu à la Gallerie Nationale du Canada à Ottawa, à la Gallerie Nationale du Québec à Québec, au Musée McCord, au Musée des Beaux-Arts de Montreal ainsi que dans diverses églises à travers la province.  Parmi ces églises, il y a celle de St-Louis de Lotbinière où est suspendue une peinture qui représente le Baptême du Christ.  Une copie qu'il a faite de cette peinture peut être vu dans l'ancienne église de Ste Jeanne de Chantal sur l'Île Perrot.  Lotbinière est un lieu important dans notre généalogie maternelle; les Daoust habitent Île Perrot depuis les débuts de la colonie.  Mon bon ami John Audy est apparenté à ce célèbre peintre!!

Jean Baptiste Roy Audy was one of the most important Quebec painters of the 19th century.  His works can be found today in the National Gallery of Canada in Ottawa, the National Gallery of Quebec in Quebec City, the McCord Museum and the Museum of Fine Arts in Montreal and in several parishes in the province.  Among these churches is Saint Louis de Lotbinière where his painting of the Baptism of Christ hangs.  A second copy he created of this painting can be found in the old church of Sainte Jeanne de Chantal on Ile Perrot.  Lotbinière is important in our maternal genealogy; Ile Perrot is a Daoust family bastion.  My friend, John Audy is related to this famous painter!
